10/24/08 - To the Cigar,

For all administrators, students and people who are members of this campus and Greek system, it looks like high school came back again. Juicycampus.com is a Web site that allows anonymous mud-slinging, character defaming, slandering and the revealing of some "juicy" secrets of greek life that no one but the authorities, I'm sure, would like to hear about.

It's back in the days of high school but put in a more public and hurtful forum. It is immature and cowardly for people to say such disgusting and hurtful things without so much as a name or a face to associate these slanderous remarks with.

There are posts specific to different houses, groups and even specific people themselves. Posts can range from as innocent as "Who is the hottest professor?" to people asking their thoughts on groups like "Cow-Omega," (a distasteful wordplay on Chi-Omega, to even worse things that I cannot mention in print.)

Many of the posts relate to petty name-calling and pointless back and forth salvos between different frat houses and sororities that only further or create meaningless fueds.

My hope in writing this letter is that it will alert the proper campus and legal authorities to take notice and either shut down this Web site or investigate into what seems to be some serious and disturbing problems in the Greek life system.

I hope that what seems like a group of immature frat boys and sorority girls who cannot face themselves by talking unsavory and downright despicable things anonomyously, will get what they deserve with a serious inquiry into what illegal and immoral things go on behind the Greek life facade of "community service."

Why can't people just listen to their parents when they say "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all?"

Well, at least be mature enough to say who you are when you say it.
