Letter: Reader defends 'Idol' star, calls Archuleta 'unique young man'

Hello John [Holmes], I always appreciate a dissenting view. It helps to bring objectivity to issues.

I can respect your opinion on David Archuleta's new CD, and although many adults and teens that I have talked to love it, everyone has different tastes.

I can respect that.

I would like to offer some clarification, though, on your comments directed toward the person of David Archuleta.

The "Counting David's Character" team had the opportunity to spend a weekend with the good friends of David Archuleta, along with David and his mom.

David was kind, gracious, and was more than happy to give our Web site a "shoutout."

I asked him to talk to my 11-year-old son on my cell, and he happily did it. My son is still on cloud nine.

We interviewed David's good friend, Mietra, which can also be viewed on our site. We have many more videos from his voice coach, to good family friends that we will be posting over the next few weeks.

All of them confirm one thing, loud and clear, that Archuleta is a unique young man with a unique gift, and that he truly does have great character.

He may be a bit shy, but that is made up for by his caring and kind heart and commitment to live a life of character.
