03/17/04 - To the Cigar, I am both shocked and appalled at Mr. Ferdinandi's letter, "Civil rights activists, liberals need not apply." This letter shows exactly what is wrong with both liberals and the extreme left.
Conservatives are accused of hate-mongering, but this letter is far worse. First of all, the statement, "If you're a Nazi who loves to wear patriot clothing, then a rewarding career as a conservative might be perfect for you" is extremely offensive. I am offended by this in three ways: as a Jew, as an American, and as a member of the Students for the Awareness of Conservatism. Are you calling conservatives Nazis? Are you calling me (a Jew) a Nazi? Anyone who refer's to conservatives (or liberals for that matter) as a Nazi is wrong. The Nazi's killed 6 million Jews (and 13 or so million other people). Mr. Ferdinandi, who is the hateful one here, you, or me?
In response to the question of gay marriage (I support civil unions, but not marriage), please read "Seven false arguments concerning gay marriages" by Prof. Swonger, which provides a balanced look on both sides.
In regards to the statement "propensity for anger and hate towards those different from you is a MUST!", you show extreme ignorance. Please attend a SAC meeting. We'll be having elections on Monday, 7 pm in the Union 308. I'm sure Marcus (who started the recent controversy with a letter about gay marriage) would enjoy a debate with you, and you can actualy see what a conservative is.
Mr. Ferdinandi, it is you who made the statement "liberty and freedom considered acceptable collateral damage" ring true in America today. I'm tolerant of your political views, but you show nothing but hate and fear toward mine. You want to stifle conservatives, simply because we do not have the same values/beliefs as you. I respect your opinion, but I do not respect your hateful ignorance.
I don't hate you, Mr. Ferdinandi, but only feel pity. The United States of America was founded on a principle or free speech, your version is free speech for those who agree with yourself. The Nazi's also had a similar policy.
Until you have something intelligent and respectful to say, please keep your hate out of public view. Who is more akin to a Nazi, you or me?
