03/31/09 -To the Cigar, A friend and I were walking on the sidewalk beside the Quadrangle on Ranger Road during our lunch hour Friday when we realized there was a black car heading directly toward us...on the sidewalk!

We recognized the driver to be former governor Bruce Sundlun, who, because he must not have a card to pass through the gate on Ranger Road, decided to drive around the gate on the sidewalk.

We were forced to jump off into the road because it was the quickest route out of his way. This is a safety issue.

Mr. Sundlun should not be allowed to drive around gates when he doesn't have road access. Perhaps the solution would be to move Mr. Sundlun's office from Carlotti to either Swan, Washburn or East Hall, where there is no card-required access to those parking lots.

It would make the campus a much safer place to walk.
