I understand that there are numerous costs involved with this move in terms of scholarships and travel costs, but it is something I would dearly love to see happen. Both teams are national powers at the club level and are among the most consistently successful teams on campus.

The Bottom Line: Is Tebow good or bad?

 

Back on March 22, Tim Tebow was traded to the New York Jets.

From the reaction of many Jets fans you’d have thought that the team had just signed an incarnation of Satan. Many disliked the trade because of Tebow’s sub-standard play on the field. He completed 46.5 percent of his passes last season, and I can understand the feeling of a team making a questionable acquisition (Julio Lugo…cough cough).

The Shide Lines: The end of Brady vs. Manning, end of an era

 

This September for the first time in 14 years, Peyton Manning will not be wearing an Indianapolis Colts uniform, leaving behind a legendary legacy. But this also could be the end to one of the best rivalries we have seen in our time, Peyton Manning vs. Tom Brady.

Since 2001, Brady and Manning have squared off a total of 14 times. Brady and his Patriots won nine while Manning and his Colts have won the remaining five.

The University of Rhode Island women's tennis team lost its match against the University of Massachusetts in decisive fashion on Saturday.

Battling an Atlantic-10 Conference rival in Massachusetts, the Rams came up short – dropping their three doubles matches before losing each of their six singles matches.

Men’s and women’s track teams compete in two-day ECAC meet

 

The University of Rhode Island men's and women's track teams competed in the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division-I Indoor Track and Field Championship this past weekend placed eighth and 12th overall, respectively.

The championship was held throughout the course of two days in Boston. Cornell University won the overall titles in both men's and women's Division I, scoring 74 points and 55 points, respectively. Rhody's women's team scored 23 points overall, while the men's team managed a total of 28.

NFL acts quickly to calm media amid bounty scandal

 

In many households, Bounty is the paper towel of choice. In the eyes of the NFL it is something more sinister. It's…..bad PR.

The bounty system instituted by current St. Louis Rams defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, most notably when he was with the New Orleans Saints, caused a furor in the media and throughout football.

Men’s basketball defeats Fordham on senior night, final home game

 

Before last night's game against Fordham University, Anthony Malhoit had never scored more than seven points in a game.

The senior from Connecticut had 10 points…in the first half.

Malhoit would eventually pump in 21 points and pulled down nine rebounds as University of Rhode Island men's basketball team cruised past Fordham 78-58 last night at the Thomas M. Ryan Center.

Boston revered as “city of champions,” says fan

In sports, a debate to determine what city is truly the "city of champions" has started. There are a few core sports cities which have exhibited greatness since the beginning of professional sporting. These include Los Angeles, New York, Chicago and Boston. Each city has made its case as to why it is the city of champions. Each has won many titles, had many great athletes and truly dominated sports in one time or another. I believe, however, that Boston is the definition of greatness, and should be crowned the city of champions.

URI men’s ice hockey team takes home second straight ESCHL championship

For the second year in a row the University of Rhode Island men's ice hockey team is taking home a championship cup.

The Rams entered the Eastern States Collegiate Hockey League tournament as the No. 4-seed. The weekend started off Friday with a  7-1 victory against Robert Morris University.

The next day was another great win against the top-seeded University of Delaware. The Rams went down a goal early on. However, sophomore center and tournament MVP Sean O'Neil tied the game up at one going into the second.

Time for Fenway to go, says Red Sox fan

With position players reporting to Fort Myers, Fla. today for the Boston Red Sox, the baseball season is quite rapidly approaching. Soon, the Sox will once again take to the field Fenway Park  field the shadow of the Green Monster – a giant green wall standing tall in left field which not only gives outfielders a headache, but has worked to make the Red Sox venue the most beloved park in baseball. URI Men’s basketball comes up short against Charlotte 49ers this weekend

 

It's a scenario that fans of the University of Rhode Island men's basketball team have seen many times this season.  Plagued by bad shooting and a lack of dominance on the glass, the Rams fell short against the University of North Carolina at Charlotte 73-66 Saturday afternoon at the Halton Arena.

The loss drops the Rams to 5-21 on the season.

URI football assistant takes job at Harvard

 

It was announced Friday afternoon that the University of Rhode Island football team's defensive coordinator and secondary coach Ryan Crawford would become the next defensive backs coach at Harvard University.

Crawford spent the last four years in Kingston and helped develop some of the top defensive backs in the Colonial Athletic Association.

Men’s basketball loses 73-56

 

With ESPN2 in the building and 5,606 loud fans in the Thomas M. Ryan Center, the University of Rhode Island men's basketball was poised to win a signature game in what has been a trying season.

It took Temple University just 83 seconds of basketball to ruin the good vibes.

The Owls scored the first eight points of the game and cruised past the Rams 73-56. It was Temple's sixth straight win over Rhode Island.

This past weekend the University of Rhode Island men's track team hosted the first annual Tribute to Torpey Invitational, a track event held in remembrance of former La Salle University track and cross country head coach Charles Torpey, who passed away last summer from a heart attack.

llThe Rams survived several UMass runs and six lead changes to defeat the Minutemen 81-78 in overtime in front of a raucous Thomas M. Ryan Center crowd of 4,236.
