04/10/08 - Jim Breuer has quietly built a consistently hilarous comedy career since being first introduced to the public during his stint at "Saturday Night Live" in the 1990s. His "SNL" career is remembered for his sidesplitting characters, such as Goat Boy and his Joe Pesci impressions on "The Joe Pesci Show" skits.

His role as Brian in the cult comedy classic "Half Baked" cemented his role in the comedy community. His character summons Jerry Garcia to life from the Grateful Dead rocker's ashes to stop the murderous drug lord Sampson.

These days, Breuer hosts his own radio show on Sirius Satellite Radio, "Breuer Unleashed," and has been on the road performing stand up on his "Breuniversity Tour," hitting college campuses across the country. Today he'll be stopping at URI to perform in Edwards Auditorium.

Last week I spoke to Breuer on the phone about the upcoming tour, as well as his Web site, a potential new Comedy Central special, and of course, the more pressing interview topics, such as pooping in buckets and the possibility of him saying a career-ending racial slur during our interview.

Breuer, whose past stand up routines have involved lots of jokes about partying and drinking (just check out his infamous "party in the stomach" bit) mixed in among his rock 'n' roll dreams, says that the party persona doesn't accurately describe him anymore.

"I'm like Aerosmith now, there's the 70s Aerosmith and then there's the 90s Aerosmith, I'm the 90s Jim Breuer now, the millennium."

He has even broken up his tour to spend time with his kids, saying, "It's not good to be away from the kids, they don't care what you do, all they know is you're not home."

Breuer does plan to talk about "Half Baked" and "SNL" during his performance, but for the most part he say's his routine will be "100 percent different." He says he's going to hit on topics such as "your futures, sex, relationships and love."

We speculated about Breuer possibly having his own "Dr. Phil"-type show to lead in to "Oprah" where he could dish out weekly tidbits of advice, but Breuer claims "Unfortunately, it could only land on cable."
