Teams likely to be cut as Athletics struggles with $800K budget cut

04/09/08 - The Athletic Department could announce as early as today which varsity sports will be eliminated next year after an $840,000 budget cut. Athletic Director Thorr Bjorn remained tight-lipped about which team or teams face the chopping block, saying yesterday no decisions had been made.

04/09/08 - With hard work, dedication and a passion for helping others succeed, senior Jill Anderson excelled not only in softball, but also in academics where she made dean's list every semester and accumulated a 3.78 grade point average. Anderson, a political science major, was honored with the student leadership award at the 20th annual Rainville Leadership Awards, along with Paula Arruda and We're Offering Women Wisdom group.

04/09/08 - The Katie DeCubellis Memorial Foundation pledged $100,000 toward the construction of a student-athlete development center on Monday night.

Students make pledge of nonviolent lifestyle at MLK's former church

04/09/08 - On Friday, three students from the University of Rhode Island attended a service at the Ebenezer Baptist Church with 2,000 other students to take a pledge of non-violence and remembrance of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. The University of Rhode Island's Center for Nonviolence and Peace Studies brought the students to the service to help spread awareness of nonviolent culture.
