03/28/08 - Many of you may know Kate Voegele as Mia from "One Tree Hill," but Voegele is not just an actress playing a singer on TV, she is also a singer in real life- and a good one at that. Voegele's debut album, Don't Look Away, produced by MySpace Records, displays fresh, real talent.

As a singer, songwriter, pianist and guitarist, Voegele's music is not at all like the catchy mindless pop music that has little input from the artists themselves. Don't Look Away shows real talent and real music. You can call Voegele the new and improved version of Michelle Branch.

Voegele's sound is a unique mix of pop and rock. Although most likely considered to be "pop," her music envelops rock in such a way as to make her stand out from the rest of the pop-rock crowd. Most often compared to Branch and Vanessa Carlton, Voegele offers something more than her contemporaries; both good vocals and good music.

There is no doubt that Voegele's appearance on "One Tree Hill" has helped launch her career, especially since Voegele sang her own songs on the show as Mia. Her songs, "Kindly Unspoken" and "No Good," played on the CW and showed that Mia (as well as Kate herself) was able to create inspirational music.

"Kindly Unspoken" is a heart-breaking ballad that describes the end of a relationship. In the song, one person realizes that what the other person says is not how they actually feel. As the song goes, "kindly unspoken, you show your emotion and silence speaks louder than words."

Starting with the soft rock-like edge of the song "Chicago," Voegele displays her guitar skills and songwriting talents with lyrics about a failed love and "leaving with just a kiss on the cheek/being up at 7 o'clock to Chicago."

Not only does Voegele's music have a good sound, Don't Look Away, also has original lyrics that actually make you think.

The lyrics off Voegele's "It's Only Life," are just some of the many that show her songwriting skills: "Take your hesitance, and your self defense, leave them behind, it's only life. Don't be so afraid of facing every day, just take your time."

Whether you classify her as pop or rock or both, with such good lyrics and sound, don't be surprised if you hear more from Voegele soon.
