Alumnus remembers friend, professor
Issue date: 3/13/08 Section: Editorial/Opinion
03/13/08 - To the Cigar,
Solid "obit" on the late, great journalism professor Wilbur Doctor. He would have shunned the use of "wordsmith," but he was that and more. "Irascible" comes to mind, but only with ardent affection.
As my former colleague Dave Lavallee aptly noted, Wilbur was the kind of guy who would call you out for writing "crap," but he also had a softer side. I dare say, he was a kind soul who invited students to his home for memorable rump sessions over dinner.
Bravo URI, for having had the wisdom to hire the likes of Wilbur Doctor in the first place. So long, friend.
