02/27/08 - To the Cigar,

I am writing this response to Jeffrey Andreoni's letter to the editor stating his opinions on the university's marketing strategies and how it affects the student body. I would first like to say that it is appalling to read his complaints with regards to URI's various blood drives, and the university's attempts to gain more student interest and response to the never ending necessity of available blood.

I cannot believe Jeffrey feels it necessary for the university to provide him with a quote "two-course meal" in exchange for his generosity and for being a caring citizen. Do you honestly think that you should be rewarded for saving a life? What makes you think that you deserve something? The reward is knowing that you can make a difference in someone's life so easily and effortlessly.

I think that Jeffrey should seriously rethink his priorities, as well as his standpoint on his own personal gain with regards to an issue as important as this. Maybe he should ask that victim who is in need of a blood transfusion what he or she thinks about his two-course appetite.

Instead of complaining about the marketing strategies here at URI, maybe he should put his efforts into changing and improving himself. Also, he should become a volunteer at the next blood drive and donate. Maybe he will realize where the real reward lies not in your stomach.
