Letter: Elections Committee Chair encourages students to run for URI Senate positions
Issue date: 2/5/08 Section: Editorial/Opinion
2/5/08 - To the Cigar,
This month the University of Rhode Island Student Senate is holding its annual spring elections for all its representative seats, including President and Vice President of the student body. If you've been looking for an opportunity to get involved and make things happen on campus this could be your chance.
As a student senator, you are connected to the heart of campus life at URI, working with student groups, planning campus events, debating student issues, solving problems and influencing university policies. Not only will you develop strong relationships with faculty, administrators and community members, but you will also make lasting friendships with your fellow senators.
If you want to become a representative for your academic college, an at-large representative, or the President / Vice-President of the student body, then sign up to run by Feb. 7 at 5 p.m. If you want to become a representative for students living on-campus or for commuter students, then sign up to run between Feb. 14 to Feb. 22.. You can also submit a short statement to be published for free in the Cigar so that voters know who you are.
Don't forget to vote on the election days in the Memorial Union from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. You don't need to pre-register, just come by with a photo ID and choose your student government representatives. On Feb. 12 and 13 the primary elections for President/ Vice-President of the student body, Academic College Reps. and At-Large Reps. will be held. On Feb. 27 and 28 the final election for President / Vice-President, On-Campus Reps. and Off-Campus Reps. will be held.
For more information please contact the Elections Committee at 874-2261 or rhodysenate@gmail.com. See you on election day.
