Will Season 7 of "American Idol" deliver?

1/30/08 - Every year around January, I find myself more attached to my television, my couch seems a bit more comfortable and the bowl of popcorn always seems to be filled. My Tuesdays and Wednesdays are now complete because of one show, and this year my wallet is even a little bit fuller thanks to a winning "American Idol" scratch off ticket.
Hello, my name is Libby Segal and I am an "American Idol" addict. I have been one since the show began in 2001.
There is something about bad singers that I can relate to: the fact that I am one. I dream of one day perfecting my voice so much that I too can go on the show and receive a lucky golden ticket to Hollywood. My audition song would be a rendition of the song "Golden Ticket" that Charlie sings in "Willy Wonka." Unfortunately, I will never have this opportunity - I don't think there is a true cure for being tone-deaf yet - so I will just have to settle for watching all the magic on television.
Each year I make it a point to pick out one contestant from their first appearance to their last time being on the show. Since I am psychic or something my choice has always made it to the final night (Justin, Clay, Diana, Carrie, Katherine, and Blake). I guess I have more of a knack for picking the runner-up, seeing as the only winner I ever chose was Carrie.
I look back on Season 4 as the best season of the show and I wonder if any season will be able to top it. Season 5 produced the worst winning idol yet, Taylor Hicks, (who has since been dropped from his record label) and Season 6 followed that with some of the worst singing ever from the final 12.
I can only hope that Season 7 will deliver, especially with all the hype that has been put into this season. Every year I prepare myself to first cringe through the terrible singers, listen to Simon's criticism, and then root for the people who really have that chance to be something big. I cannot remember another season ever getting as much media attention as this season.
