PT students advocate for individuals with disabilities

12/07/07 - To the Cigar, Recently, the first-year graduate students of the physical therapy doctoral program became involved in a project advocating for individuals with disabilities. These students are evaluating campus and community facilities to check structural compliance with the codes of the American Disability Act, while making realistic suggestions of ways to improve accessibility.
As one can imagine, life in a wheelchair can be challenging. Unfortunately, the special needs of those with disabilities often get overlooked, but nonetheless is an important issue that needs to advocated for and addressed.
Right here on campus, along with the Kingston Emporium, recent strides have been made in renovating facilities in attempts to make them more accessible. Elevators have been added, parking has been reserved, dorms have been renovated and restaurants have been upgraded.
With more and more places becoming proactive, campus and the surrounding area is becoming more of an enjoyable area to spend leisure time. Anyone interested in more information should feel free to contact these students at
