12/06/07 - The University of Rhode Island men's and women's swimming teams took first place last weekend at the Harold Anderson Invitational.

"It was really great," head coach Mick Westkott said. "I was really proud and pleased. For the women it was particularly satisfying since they lost to Maine last time. We had four Harold Anderson records set."

The women finished with a score of 725 to the University of Maine's second place finish of 676 points. This was the first time the women have won the Harold Anderson Invitational since 2004.

To prepare for the meet, Westkott said that his teams did things differently this year.

"We worked real hard Sunday, Monday and Tuesday during morning workouts," he said. "On Wednesday and Thursday we rested, which is out of the ordinary but they swam well Friday and Saturday."

Providence College finished third with 355 points and Fairfield was last with 308 points.

The meet started off with a win for URI in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 4:05.36. Seniors Caitlin Regan, Julie Kent, Cassie Mizia and freshman Samantha Veccia competed in the event.

The 400-yard free relay was also won by URI with a time of 3:38.69. This free relay team was made up of freshmen Kinsey Tarbell, Lillian Falconer, Mizia and Kent.

Falconer also took first in the 200-yard IM and 400-yard IM with times of 2:07.38 and 4:35.09 respectively.

"Lily Falconer clearly had the best meet," Westkott said. "She had a meet record and a varsity record. It was a big swim for her."

The 200-yard free relay was won by the Lady Rams with a time of 1:40.91. Mizia, Kent, sophomore Maura Zaneski and senior Maria Cieslewski competed in the relay.

Westkott said freshman Alex Lalli also had a big win for the team in the 50-yard free (25.44).

The divers, junior Kelly Mohr and sophomore Haley Johnson had wins for URI as well. Mohr won the 1-meter dive with a score of 204.40, while Johnson won the 3-meter dive (193.75).
