Kate Garcia led the way with three points, including two assists and one goal. Michelle Paquin added three assists and Rachel MacDonald had two goals. Goals were also scored by Chelsea Skorupski, Kristen Leach, Jolene Rambone, and Caroline Greene.
"The team worked well together and we had good goaltending," head coach Beth McCann said about the victory.
On Saturday night Rhody was defeated by Division-1 foe Sacred Heart. McCann wasn't happy about the result, but also looked at the positives in the loss.
"Sacred Heart came out and scored four goals right away," she said. "We came back and scored a goal and did a good job of holding them to one goal in the second period. We just tried to take it period by period."
URI is coming off a big showing in the American Collegiate Hockey Association in Kingston, Rhody is ranked third nationally, and managed to not only go undefeated in the showcase, but defeated second ranked Lindenwood University.
"That win will really help us get to our goal of a one or two seed in the National Tournament. While it was a nice win, the Sacred Heart game proved to us we still have work to do and aren't quite where we want to be yet," McCann said of the ACHA showcase.
The women's team will continue action Saturday against the University of Connecticut in Storrs, Conn. Rhody will close out the first part of the season on Sunday against Penn State University at Boss Ice Arena.
McCann said it won't be easy not playing a game for over a month.
"It's always tough, but we have two games coming up," the head coach said. "We're going to mix the lineup up, but we don't want to underestimate these last two games."
The team won't return to the ice until Jan. 11.
"We're going to come back a good week-and-a-half before we return to action, but it's good down time for the players to see their families and friends," McCann added.
