12/04/07 - It's a shame that all eyes have been on Britney Spears for her run-ins with the law, her ugly custody battle for her two sons, and her finger flipping escapades with the paparazzi, instead of for the release of her new album, Blackout, which hit the market Oct. 30.
To no one's surprise, Britney has outdone herself yet again. Blackout, which is Spears' fifth full-length album, features a new vibe that suggests that Britney is "growing-up" in the music industry. Her edgy sound and hypnotic lyrics have really made this album one of her best yet.
"Gimme More" is the first single that hit radio waves off of Blackout and let's just say that this may be the best thing going for Britney at the moment. Her sexy demeanor and impulsive whines take us back to her yesteryears of "Baby One More Time" and "Drive Me Crazy," except the lyrics are a bit racier. Shocker, huh?
"Center of attention/ Even when we're up against the wall/ You've got me in a crazy position/ If you're on a mission/ You've got my permission." If that's not implying something, then I don't know what is, Britney.
And just when you thought "Gimme More" was a good comeback, it gets better, I promise. Songs like "Radar" and "Ooh Ooh Baby" (two of my favorites from the album) heat up stereo systems. We all know that Britney's vocal range isn't as impressive as she would like us to believe, but the catchy chorus of "Radar" and the sexy, sultry vibe that "Ooh Ooh Baby" gives off makes it hard to not want to keep that repeat button on.
But I can honestly say that Britney's main goal on this album is to shower us all with lust. Yes, I said it. Lust. Why lust and how do I know this?
The album is full of lyrics like "I've waited all my life for you/ My favorite kiss/ Your perfect skin/ Your perfect smile" from the song "Heaven on Earth" and "You're the perfect lover/ I'm in love with all the things you do/ So seductive when you touch me/ I can't get enough of you," from "Perfect Lover." How can that not be lust?
And to top it all off, there is even a song that was most likely directed towards Mr. Kevin Federline himself. Titled "Toy Solider," the song reveals Britney's need for a new man in her life. But with the sloppy, no hair and no underwear look she's been rocking lately, I don't really know how many men Britney thinks she's going to pick up. I mean seriously, a major reality check is in order here.
But Blackout has shown the world that although Britney is riding the rollercoaster that we call life pretty badly, she's still got game and is ready to bring it to the table. Sure some of the lyrics are borderline pornographic, and sure she may be a little too into herself, but what can you do? She's a legend and you know that when you are old and gray you'll talk about her like she was your best friend.
Because you can't lie to yourself you know that Britney Spear's music has gotten you through those rough days. So rock on Brit, rock on!
