11/27/07 - While many members of the University of Rhode Island community spent Thanksgiving break in a tryptophan-induced coma, the men's basketball team was busy splitting a pair of non-conference match-ups.

The Rams suffered their first loss of the season, 76-72 at Boston College on Wednesday, but bounced back with an impressive 83-57 blowout of the University of Toledo Saturday.

Against the Eagles, the Rams probably should have checked their pockets on their way out of Conte Forum just to be safe because that night BC certainly stole the game from Rhody.

"It was a close game the whole way, but in the end they just wanted it more," senior forward Will Daniels said.

After the Eagles jumped out to an early 17-7 lead, Rhody battled back with a 7-0 run to cut the deficit to just three points at the 12:20 mark.

The Rams would take their first lead just over a minute later on a fast break lay-up from sophomore Lamonte Ulmer off a sweet dish from freshman Marquis Jones.

Rhody held the lead for the remainder of the half, reaching as many as 11 points, before taking a 37-30 advantage into halftime.

It appeared as if the Rams were going to be able to stave off all BC threats, maintaining their seven-point lead through the first six minutes of the half.

Then Tyrese Rice bailed the Eagles out.

Despite his lack of size, the junior guard was clearly the playmaker and facilitator of the Eagle offense.

After holding the ball for most of the shot clock, Rice pulled up from the left wing, three to five feet from beyond the arc and buried a three-pointer in the face of two Ram defenders.

Following Jimmy Baron's miss on the ensuing possession, Rice knocked down another triple, this time from the right side, cutting the Rhody lead to 47-46.

"Rice was a difference maker for them tonight," Rams head coach Jim Baron said.

For the first time in nearly 20 minutes of game time, the Eagles seemed energized and back in the game.
