KT Tunstall will make you want to be her BFF

11/01/07 - I can't tell you how many times I've picked up one of those cutesy teen magazines, such as Seventeen or CosmoGirl (yes, they're for high school girls; yes, they are often pathetic and humorous, but they're entertaining, god damn it!) and seen some "hot" skeletal celebrity with close to zero talent on the cover.

You all know the names - They highlight your homepage, overshadowing real news stories with headlines like "So-and-so sent to rehab for the THIRD TIME." Lindsay Lohan. Hilary Duff. Paris Hilton. Nicole Richie.

Underneath the bright pink type that says "10 reasons Why We Love Lindsay Lohan!," the magazine is almost guaranteed to say something about how she is just like every other girl. She's just so normal that she could be your best friend.

Yeah, because all my best friends drive $300,000 Mercedes, drink coffee that costs $8 a cup and use their coke addiction to stay stick-thin.

Not only do I not have any friends like this, I don't want them. There are, however, a few rare artists/actresses who seem to have avoided the crack habit and remained as grounded and "chill" as possible while still making millions a day.

Singer and songwriter KT Tunstall is one of these select chicas. KT, who released her first album, Eye To The Telescope in 2006, has come out with her second, equally unique album, Drastic Fantastic. The lyrics, the music and even the album cover inserts from both of KT's albums show her talent, insight, and most importantly, a personality you can relate to.

With her messy, choppy, shoulder-length black hair, freckled pale skin and quirky sense of style, she looks like a real human, not an over-styled, bleach-blond skank.

Her lyrics are some of the most down-to-earth I've heard in a long time. She's not some angry chick rocker like Alanis Morrisette, who makes you fear for not only your own life, but also for the guy's life that she's singing about.

And she's not a peppy little bubblegum teenager like JoJo, crooning about true love at the raw age of 16. KT is real, she's genuine. Yes, of course she writes about love, about lost love, about the pain of love.
