11/01/07 - To the Cigar,
I wish to extend my thoughts and prayers to the residents of southern California, its town officials, and the firefighters combating the blaze.
This is a moment unlike no other when man is pitted against the elements. However, the elements do not have the compassion or the resolve that is shared among the people of southern California.
I hope that these elements subsist and the dangers pass. Rest assured though that through the ashes will arise a new community. After the wake of such a disaster we may feel helpless.
But our helplessness will give way to compassion and our compassion will bring about the determination to rebuild. Not only our homes, but our lives too.
