Men's hockey continues perfect record

The team is 8-0-0 and going strong. The first game against West Chester on Friday night was an action packed nail-biter, which ended with the Rams winning in a shoot-out after the first five-minute overtime.
The team was strong on the boards the entire game and seemed to have control during the first period when it was up by one point. Going into the second period, the mood quickly turned when West Chester scored a goal, tying the game 2-2.
There were key shot attempts taken by Rhode Island's No. 25, senior Ben Herring, but they did not go in. URI goalie No. 35, Andrew Lisi saved a shot from West Chester with 49 seconds left in the second period. The score remained 2-2 going into the third period.
Rhode Island continued to play a very physical game on the boards in the third period, but with six minutes, and 21 seconds left in the game, West Chester scored and moved ahead 3-2. URI had many hopeful attempts at the net and No. 11, senior Cory Manley almost scored for the Rams with 1 minute left.
Lingering around West Chester's net, the Rams hoped to score and move into overtime. With a mere fourth of a second left in the game, URI finally scored and tied the game 3-3.
During the five-minute overtime, the Ram's goalie saved a crucial shot with 31.6 seconds left, and West Chester was able to deflect a shot from the Rams with only 13.4 seconds left.
Still tied 3-3, the two teams went into a long, exhilarating shoot-out. West Chester had the first shot and missed, followed by URI scoring on its first attempt at the net. Followed by West Chester scoring on its third attempt and URI scoring on its third attempt as well. On the 9th and 10th attempts, URI and West Chester both scored.
After a long, effortful shootout, URI finally pulled through and scored for the win on its 11th attempt at the net, winning 4-3 in overtime.
On Saturday, the Rams played West Chester at home again, beating them 7-2.
The team will play the Naval Academy this weekend in Annapolis, Md. The Rams have already defeated the Navy and plan on having a successful weekend.
