10/24/07 - Good news for all of you Matchbox Twenty fans who have been eagerly awaiting the band's return- Matchbox is finally back.
After five years Matchbox Twenty has reentered the music scene. With a double disc set of six new songs and 11 previous hits from over the years, their new CD, Exile on Mainstream, which was released on Oct. 2 has gotten great reviews.
During the band's break, lead singer Rob Thomas released his solo CD in 2005, Something to Be, an album which ended up being so successful that I did not think that the band would reunite.
Matchbox fans will be happy to finally hear Thomas' voice back with the original crew again. Even though the album has only six new songs, they are without a doubt enjoyable to listen to. Listening to the CD reminded me of how much I love this band and how glad I am that it is back.
The current single off the album, "How Far We've Come" is a fast tempo and powerful song about how the world may come to an end. It's hard not to start tapping your feet while listening.
My second favorite song on the new CD is "Can't Let You Go." The beat is different from the band's usual sound and is quite relaxing and romantic. "I'll Believe You When" is a happy sounding and upbeat song, which displays the talent of not only Thomas, but the instruments as well. "If I Fall" has really good lyrics, and it is easy to interpret the meaning of.
The second CD includes the old hits we've all heard and loved singing along to during the years such as "3 A.M," "Real World," and "Disease." It will remind you of how much of an artistic band it was and how the band has not lost its ability to rock.
Matchbox Twenty has definitely made a solid comeback into the music scene. Not only does the CD reveal how great it is to hear Thomas' voice again, but it also allows listeners to realize how artistic the band is. This album allows the band to step out of the role of Thomas' backup.
The classics are pleasing, the new hits are refreshing, and it is a relief that good old Matchbox Twenty is back!
