Browning hall director found dead; remembered for kindness, hard work

04/03/08 - The hall director for Browning and Adams residence halls died Tuesday evening from natural causes, according to officials. Kiev Tuen Atreides, 44, was found unresponsive in his Browning Hall apartment by the Eddy Residence Hall director, who called Campus Police at 5:13 p.m.

University reaccredited by NEASC

04/03/08 - After approximately a month of waiting, the University of Rhode Island received notice yesterday that it is reaccredited for the next 10 years through the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. Former provost M. Beverly Swan, who oversaw the two-year-long accreditation process, was excited when she learned the news.

University budget cuts threaten graduate assistant positions

04/03/08 - Another department at the University of Rhode Island will feel the implications of the proposed $12.1 million budget cut for the upcoming year. Vice President for Student Affairs Thomas Dougan said yesterday he and members of his department are preparing plans for budgets cuts of 5, 10 or 15 percent, and that he has never faced a budget cut of this magnitude.

URI Army ROTC instructor receives prestigious national teaching award

04/03/08 - University of Rhode Island Reserve Officer Training Corps Maj. Robert Edwards recently received the Colonel Leo A. Codd Memorial Award, a national teaching award given to the nation's top ROTC instructors. The award is the most prestigious ROTC teaching award and is given each year to an instructor in the Army, Navy and Air Force ROTC.
