11/29/07 - The cost of contraceptives is on the rise at the University of Rhode Island because of a federal law that became effective on Jan. 1, 2008. The Deficit Reduction Act of 2005 eliminated the practice of drug manufacturers providing discounted medications to college and community health centers.
11/29/07 - The University of Rhode Island Student Senate recognized 60 organizations yesterday, but postponed a decision on one group that has been the focus of debate for two weeks. The group in question, The National Society of Black Engineers, will be further discussed by the Student Organization Advisory and Review Committee in order to determine NSBE's placement as a Level III or Level IV organization.
11/29/07 - The University of Rhode Island is about to get a lot more environmentally friendly. URI officials are in the process of examining every building on campus in an energy audit to determine how they can be upgraded to save energy. The university has hired the Massachusetts-based company NORESCO to create a performance contract for the URI campus, which is scheduled to be completed in mid-January.
11/29/07 - A unique opportunity is up for grabs for one Rhode Island resident. The Rhode Island Board of Governors for Higher Education is looking for one University of Rhode Island student to sit on its governing panel. The board, an 11-member panel of volunteers, includes public figures and, by state law, one student from Rhode Island who is enrolled full time at a state institution.
