Theater Interview: Cats performer visits Brazil, Chile in name of art

By Jackie Cole

02/07/07 - For your average 20-year-old URI sophomore, everyday life consists of nearly the same tedious, tiresome and monotonous routine, give or take a few variables. Monday through Friday's schedule includes such exhilarating activities as painfully early 8 a.

CD Review: Former Wilco members groove in The Autumn Defense

By Kristen Podgurski

02/07/07 - The Autumn Defense is an indie rock duo from Chicago. Their self-titled third album was released in early 2007 on Broadmoor Records. The project is the creation of Wilco members John Stirratt and Patrick Sansone. Stirratt contributes a multitude of talents to the band, taking on bass, acoustic guitar and vocals.

CD Review: Cute is what they aimed for, and well, they missed

By Greg Shumchenia

02/07/07 - If you're audacious enough to name your band Cute Is What We Aim For, you need to be looking like Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer during the volleyball scene in Top Gun. I realize I just described an unattainable beauty, but at least have the wherewithal to clean yourself up to the standards of Anthony "Goose" Edwards.

CD Review: Rapper Kamachi needs to stay underground

By Jeremy Carmona

02/07/07 - Trying to direct hip-hop into a positive direction on Concrete Gospel, Chief Kamachi is better off preaching to another crowd. He claims that hip-hop is in danger of losing its true meaning, and he wants to make people globally conscious. I'm not sure what this means, but what I do know is that this album isn't going global anytime soon.

CD Review: Dirty Pretty Things suck

By Amanda Meyer

02/07/07 - Dirty Pretty Things. It's a great band name, but a not-so-great band. The British post-punk revival group's latest single boasts the title, "You Fucking Love It," but you won't. In fact, you probably won't even understand enough of what they are saying to form a solid opinion on the band.

CD Review: G. Love shows versatility on Lemonade

By Rachel McCarty

02/07/07 - The heater is cranked, the windows are icy, we've stripped off jackets and the stereo is filling the car with the soothing sounds of G. Love and Special Sauce's new album Lemonade. And for 14 tracks I dream of summer. Basking in the artificial tropical breeze, you can almost taste it until the last track fades out.

CD Review: The Good, The Bad and The Queen worth another listen

By Justin Pacheco

02/07/07 - The Good, The Bad and The Queen certainly have an all-star lineup. The band features the front man of Blur, Damon Albarn, the bassist of The Clash, Paul Simonon, ex-Verve guitarist Simon Tong, and the co-founder of the Afrobeat genre of music, Tony Allen.

Movie Review: Smokin' Aces only great in barren winter schedule

By Stephen Greenwell

02/07/07 - While Smokin' Aces can't aspire to the heights of truly great gangster movies like The Godfather and Goodfellas, or to clever "trick" movies like The Usual Suspects and Snatch, the film does fill the void in an otherwise slow month for movies. When your competition is Epic Movie and Because I Said So, it doesn't take much to shine.

Amanda's Brush With Celebrity: Peyton Manning has a large forehead

By Amanda Meyer

02/07/07 - So maybe being in marching band made me a geek in high school, but it made me a geek who was able to meet Peyton Manning. As I have mentioned before, I live just a few miles from Gillette Stadium. In 2004 the Patriots asked the Franklin High School music department to participate in the home opener band performance for the team's game against the Colts.
