NACWAA names Lauren Anderson administrator of the year

10/14/05 - This week the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletic Administrators named University of Rhode Island Athletics Senior Associate Director Lauren Anderson the Division I-AA Administrator of the Year. The award was presented in Kansas City, Mo., at the annual NAWCAA National Convention, according to the university.

ZETA president, Rhody native crowned 2005 Homecoming Queen

10/14/05 - Last weekend homecoming took place at the University of Rhode Island: the annual football game, food, reunions, and the crowning of this year's Homecoming Queen, Erin Leyden. Leyden, a native Rhode Islander, grew up in East Greenwich. She was very involved in her town and in her high school by doing a lot of community service.

Drop in out-of-state enrollment possible, report to be released tomorrow

10/14/05 - Although official numbers are not yet available, University of Rhode Island officials speculate a possible drop in the number of full-time, out-of-state students when comparing this year's enrollment rate with last year's. "Even though we had a healthy increase in overall Rhode Island enrollees, about 4 percent over the last year, we saw a decline in out-of-state enrollees," James Lynch, dean of undergraduate admissions, said.

URI awarded $590,000 grant to help special needs teachers teach food safety lessons

10/14/05 - The University of Rhode Island Cooperative Extension Food Safety Education Program received a grant of $590,000 to help create educational materials for New England special needs teachers. The materials are designed to assist the teachers in instructing their students in food safety, storage and preparation.

10/14/05 - The University of Rhode Island Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Center and OutRI held "Coming Out Week" this week on campus. Programs such as the Welcome Project and discussion groups were implemented to increase awareness and visibility of the gay community and alternative lifestyles on campus.
