Academy Award winning URI grad talks about movies, kids with cameras

03/10/05 - Hard work has been rewarding for Ross Kauffman. The 1989 University of Rhode Island graduate won his first Academy Award last month with collaborator Zana Briski for their documentary "Born into Brothels." The film, which examines the conditions of prostitutes' children in Calcutta, received several other nods including the 2004 Sundance Film Festival's Audience Award and Best Documentary from the National Board of Review.

Bands: Jump Little Children

03/10/05 - Jump Little Children may as well be the best-kept secret in music. From Charleston, S.C., the band is composed of Jay Clifford (guitar, vocals), Jonathan Grey (bass), Ward Williams (strings) and Matt Bivens (multi-instrumental rap). A friend of mine introduced me to the band four years ago.
