Top 5 animal YouTube videos

04/08/09 - The Internet is an incredible place, and the amount of information made available online is astonishing. Of course, information is not the real purpose of the Internet. The Internet is here to amuse us, and what better way to amuse us than with funny animal videos?Videos of animals being cute or funny are pretty much guaranteed to be amusing in some way and deep down everyone has a weakness for adorable animals. So here is a list of five of my favorite funny animal videos.



1. "Chimpanzee Riding On A Segway"



As the title clearly states, this is a video of a chimp riding on a Segway. Chimps doing human things are inherently funny- they just are. Also, Segways are pretty funny themselves, so the combination is pretty much a guaranteed laugh.

Plus, the chimp is dressed in overalls and wearing a helmet. What really makes the video is the accompanying song that is so incredible infectious that it will likely be stuck in your head for a week after hearing it.



2. "Bear Trampoline"



This video is an old one (but still funny) and is pretty much required viewing if you want to be on top of your Internet sensations. This is a video of a bear that became stuck in a tree. Animal control decided that the best course of action was to tranquilize the bear so it'd fall out of the tree and then land on a trampoline that they had set up.

I don't quite understand how this came to be the best solution, but it worked. The bear was okay despite the fact that it hit the trampoline, bounced high in the air, and then hit the ground.

This video also became a recurring gag on "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" as the show would randomly play it.



3. "Exploding Whale"



This video does not feature an animal being cute or adorable. In fact, this video is pretty disgusting. Like the last video, this incident is the result of an odd method being used to solve an odd problem.

A sperm whale became beached in Oregon in 1970 and had been rotting for days causing an unbearable stench. The typical solution to get rid of a beached whale's corpse was to bury in the sand, however this particular beach's sand was too shallow to bury the large whale.

Instead the town decided to blow the carcass up with dynamite. This resulted in huge chunks of whale blubber and rotted flesh being sent as far as a quarter mile away, covering the bystanders and even crushing a car.



4. "Ninja Cat"



I hate cats. I am one of those people who are suspicious of cats, because they have the appearance of plotting something evil. This cat proves my suspicion correct, as this cat has apparently mastered the art of being a deadly Ninja.

The cat stealthily moves only when the camera is not looking at it, giving it the appearance of getting closer without moving. It's a little creepy but mostly just really amusing.

There are lots of other cat videos out there that are pretty amusing... mostly videos of cats failing or getting stuck in things. Searching "funny cat videos" on Google gives you about 6 million results. That's a lot of funny cats.

While cats may have 6 million results, "funny dog videos" brings up about 11 million results. I take that to mean that dogs are nearly twice as funny as cats and as further proof that dogs are better than cats.

With that said, the last video is obviously going to feature a dog.



5. "Weiner Dog Plays Fetch with A Robot"



Daschunds are funny looking dogs. They have long bodies with stubby legs and have the general appearance of a hot dog. They also have a reputation for being wildly energetic, which would explain why this dog's owner decided to make a robot to play with the dog.

The video is funny for two reasons. First, the fact that someone would go through the trouble of building a machine that could automatically play with their dog seems too close to the top of inventions created due to laziness. (The number one invention due to laziness? Peanut butter and jelly in the same jar.) Second, the dachshund is cute and runs kind of funny because of its stubby legs.
