Stalking the Jonas Brothers

09/11/08 - As many of you can image, the Jonas Brothers' phenomenon is unlike any other. Some might even say that they are bigger than *NSYNC and the Backstreet Boys. I for one completely agree with this. Sure, Justin Timberlake and Nick Carter were worth the occasional $100 concert ticket, but the Jo Bros have got girls going crazy. Literally.

My obsession with the group sort of happened on a whim, and pretty quickly at that. I had an internship this summer in New York City with my friend (who shall remain nameless as there are some embarrassing moments that I plan to uncover throughout this article) and everyday we hoped to see some major celebrity action while walking the streets of the city.

To our disappointment, we went almost all summer without any success, except for seeing Leonardo DiCaprio's eco-friendly bachelor pad in TriBeca. Oh, we also met Eileen Fulton, a soap opera star who has been on "As the World Turns" for over 50 years. Sorry Eileen, but you are no Sarah Jessica.

With our last two weeks of the summer in the city approaching us, we were pretty disappointed that our luck had failed us. That is until we realized that the Jonas Brothers were going to be in town.

I had heard their song "Burnin' Up" on the radio all summer and totally dug it, so I downloaded some of their other songs for my listening pleasure. Needless to say, I fell in love (I guess the "Love Bug" hit me), but wasn't totally on the obsessive level yet. My friend, however, was a huge fan and we decided to go to their sold out concert at Madison Square Garden.

Enter embarrassing moment number one. We got our third row tickets at $150 a piece, from a scalper the night before, and I am sure you can guess what happened. They were fake.

This is where my obsession began. If we had just been able to see them perform live that night, I would have been satisfied and that would have been the end of it.

But because I did not get to see the beautiful Joe Jonas sing to me live from the stage, my yearning to see these boys in person grew to an almost unhealthy level. That entire week, my friend and I dedicated our time to stalking the Jonas Brothers. I kid you not when I say this. We literally tried to find every single place that those boys were going to be while they were in the city.

We even got my boss (the head of a PR firm) in on the act. She has friends in high places at a bunch of magazines and television studios so she tried to get us in on interviews with them. But obviously that didn't work; otherwise there would be no point to this story.

We did know that they were going to be on "Live! with Regis and Kelly" though, so being the 20-year-old teeny-boppers that we are, we decided to get up early and wait outside ABC studios for their departure.

As you can imagine, the place was swamped with screaming 10 year-old girls and their mothers, so my friend and I looked a tad out of place. But don't worry, we played the whole, "We're the PR girls" card really well and looked super professional, as if it were a job task we were on. Ha, yea right!

Long story short, the Jonas Brothers were on security lockdown and weren't able to sign autographs for all of us adoring fans.

Enter embarrassing moment number two: the mad dash to get to Times Square so we could watch them come to the window on MTV's "TRL." Yes, we were probably the two oldest people who waited outside TRL for about two hours, maybe even three, but at this point does it really even matter?

The boys never came to the window, so all of the screaming fans outside on the streets who sweat their entire bodyweight off were now left with nothing but silly posters like the one that I was holding that said, "I know Sarah Rose." (That one is for my friend out there who is remaining nameless!)

With much disappointment, my friend and I headed back to our office to get to work. My boss though was still on the kick, just as much as we were, and suggested that we try to go to their hotel.

After stalking pictures all day, everyday, we were able to determine where the boys were staying. The Trump Towers. I mean really, would you expect anything less from these guys?

We ended up having to go by there anyway to deliver some packages to magazines, so we figured we would check out the scene and maybe we would get lucky and catch them leaving or entering the building.

We waited for maybe 10 minutes with about 20 other crazy fans, before a big black SUV rolled up. We all were super excited, but when the door opened, a blonde chick stepped out. I mean hey, it was country star Taylor Swift, but obviously she was not who I was there to see. Where were the Jonas Brothers?

About five minutes later, a police car screeched to a halt right next to where we were standing and 30 seconds later, three more black SUVs followed suit. O-M-G this is it! The absolute moment you have all been waiting for... well, the moment I had been waiting all my life for! The Jonas Brothers!

Obviously we all screamed, some girls even cried, and those cute little Jonases got out of the cars and signed autographs and took pictures. We even got to see their parents and the bonus Jonas, Frankie! My life was complete, the obsession was cured.

I can admit, maybe I went a little stalkerazzi on the Jo Bros. but hey, it all paid off in the end. I was able to see Nick, Joe, and Kevin, live in person, and I have pictures to prove it. Jonas Brother stalkers unite! You know who you are!
